At the Keyboard with Musikgarten
At the Keyboard is a one – three year program featuring activities which lay the foundation for success at the keyboard. The highly effective pedagogy provides a natural pathway to reading, teaches pianistic skills, and develops comprehensive musicianship. The program features an aural approach to music learning, building on songs children will learn to love. Group keyboarding provides a natural pathway to reading music while building a much-loved piano repertoire. In developing comprehensive musicianship at the keyboard, children are building self discipline and cooperation, learning to multi-track and concentrate which will help them in other areas of study.
At The Keyboard is a full year commitment.
Through singing, dancing, and playing much-loved folk songs, children learn 5-finger positions, crossing over and under to extend beyond the 5-finger position in C, D, E, F, G and A major as well as d, e, and g minor. Additionally, they work with the I- and V7 cord in those keys.
Students continue to sing, dance, and play, and add scales, chord progressions, improvisation, and Alberti Bass. Folk repertoire is further explored at the keyboard, while music for listening and dancing features Chopin, Saint-Saens, Dvorak, Schumann, and Bach. Notation Games include work with rhythm, note reading and harmony.
Keyboard repertoire includes Hadyn, Hanon, Kabalevsky, Mozart, and Saint-Saens. Notation games include more complex rhythms, note reading and harmonic analysis. Piano repertoire by Beethoven, Brahms, Faure, and Schubert is featured for dancing and drumming.
